Washing or Co-Washing: that is the Hairrr-yyy question!
Happy happy Friday y’all!
End of the week, thank God…seriously, if you haven’t noticed yet, January is not my favorite month of the year. In between paying last year’s holiday bills and watching my weight on the scale go up (courtesy of last year’s holiday food), really, January ain’t my buddy…
But it’s Friday, and incidentally Friday’s also my hair day! It’s the day I wash and style my curlies, with all the love and innovation (and the entire arsenal of hair products) I can muster…and also because, after today, my week-ends kinda belong to a set of little people I gave birth to…
But anyways…last post I was discussing how co-washing may be a better alternative than washing your hair, actually. Especially since as curlies, our hair tends to be drier and more brittle than average. And not to forget all these good ol’ new year resolutions about how you were gonna hit the gym and get back in bangin’ shape this year (huhuh)…and of course now, after that sweaty body combat session or the killer zuma workout (yeah the one with the hot instructor), you gots to wash that hair a little more than usual…
One of the advantages of wearing your hair natural is that you can actually ditch the “oh I can’t sweat my hair out” excuse! I mean, you know how sisters don’t play with their hair, well I know I don’t, I won’t eat but I ain’t showing up with busted hair talkin’ about I’m Oompa-loompah’s cousin…huhhuh…
You can still sport fresh hair without all the sulfate-filled shampooing, a little more often than usual. I just got the “As I Am” cleansing conditioner ($5.99 at Sally’s Beauty Supply stores), and I have to say, it works wonders. I felt my hair cleansed, yet still very soft and manageable. No comb needed, I haven’t used a comb in a month now, just finger-detangling.
The new product I tried today, and which left me soooo hair-happy, is the Macadamia Natural Oil deep treatment. Oooh la la! Now if you haven’t tried this one, you GOTS to get it! I purchased the 8.5 oz container from Amazon for $9.99; however, it’s also available at certain Target stores.
I let it sit with my Curlmart heating cap on; don’t laugh, that thing makes you look like an alien but oh does it work.
Then the usual rinse out, leave-in conditioner (Mixed Chicks), Shea Moisture smoothie and bam!! Bam Bam, like Nene Leakes of Real Housewives of Atlanta would say!
This time I skipped on the gel to see how my curls would come out, and I like it better…for now!
Ok, that’s my curly routine of this week, and I ain’t mad at the results…shoo now time to go strut my stuff…grocery shopping that is (gotta do what you gotta do, ok?)
What is your experience with co-washing, or transitioning to co-washing? Can you recommend some products?
Love Always, Miss Awa
