Happy happy Friday!
And to top off this sweet entrance into the week-end, it’s also the first day of March, and we can officially start gearing up for Spring…yayyy!!
And what better way to think about Spring, than through the vibrant colors, hues and tones of Spring Fashion! And that’s exactly what JC Penney’s first-ever collaboration with its first-ever “seasonal” designer is bringing to us this Spring 2013! Not to mention the fact that this designer is one of Africa’s own, Nigerian-born designer and London-based Duro Olowu!
The collection itself is a yummy slice of color and energy, very much reminiscing of African prints and traditional designs, with a modern edge yet also some very classic, uber-feminine and distinctively flattering silhouettes. Looking at pictures of his past and current actual collections takes me back to Senegal, to the vibrancy and buoyancy of the local fabrics, to the sea of colors with seemingly no rhyme or reason, yet all beautifully meshed together as uniquely beautiful, ageless, classic yet contemporary, modern yet traditional silhouettes…As designer Olowu puts it himself, and as reported by the Huffington Post, “this collection is for anyone, from 18 to 80″, from your little college-bound niece to your fabulous Tia and Frenchy classical Mama (and you should take them along, who knows, you may talk your way into a FREE new outfit, courtesy of Mama…)
And from what I can hear, the collection will retail from $10 to $100, which y’all know I’m loving the sound of (and so is my wallet…and dear hubby)…Mrs. O. Herself, our Very Fashionable First Lady, has given our fellow African fashion genius her stamp of approval by sporting his designs more than once…
So yes this Spring, Duro Olowu it is at JC Penney, so let me hang on to my stilettos and get going, someone got some shopping to do…
In the meantime, enjoy the yummy fashion eye candy below, all courtesy of Nigerian designer Duro Olowu:
