3 Super Simple Tips to Get Balance (Finally!)
I know, I was just saying that last week…Anyhoo…Hope everyone’s had a great week-end! Ours was pretty busy, with dear baby son turning the Big One! We were happy to celebrate life and health and happiness with our amazing friends and family.
And today, after the cake and blue balloons and candy galore, well, today is return to reality day! And more important, back to re-establishing that constant balance we all need in life, be it work-family, work-life, school-life or whatever balance you crave in your everyday life.
Well, just as I was thinking about this yesterday, I stumbled upon the most interesting article on Fast Company about simple tips of those amongst us who seem to have it all together, all the time…you know, the soccer mom who bakes cookies for the entire team, shows up on time, and even volunteers on 3 different committees at school, yeah that one…
Well, I particularly liked these three simple tips:
- Don’t separate work, school, or whatever else you’ve got going on, with the rest of your life: As constraining as it may be, work, or school, or business, is part of your life, just as is parenting, running your household or organizing your budget. And all of it gotta get done! So why not put all your commitments together and organize them together? Work appointments need to mesh with doctors’ appointments, and so does your Organizational Leadership class homework with the kids’ Math homework? Whether in your faithful Blackberry, notepad or whatever tool you use, keeping it all together may help in achieving it all successfully, or at least some…
- Check in with yourself often!Yes, as in, sit somewhere with yourself, alone preferably (that means with no kids or hubby or pet or to-do list for that matter), and ask yourself the important questions! Am I doing too much? What should I keep doing? What should I definitely ditch and forget about? Or should I just lay down and take a nap? Just sayin’….
- Aim for possible, NOT Perfect! I made peace with perfection (or the lack thereof) a long time ago. I’m not perfect, and nothing I’ll ever do will be, and that is just fine with me…There’s a level of comfort in knowing that one is not held to impossible standards. So try and strive, and do your absolute best, and when it seems like it may not work, reassess and keep moving!
